A Magickal Little Chat with THE WITCHY MOMMY
Today on the Witch Haunt, I’m thrilled to be interviewing one of my favorite YouTubers on the subject of spiritualism, practical magick, and everyday witchcraft. A mother of three and a beautiful woman inside and out, please welcome Feather Garden Belle, a.k.a. THE WITCHY MOMMY!
WH: Hi, Feather! Welcome to the blog! Please give us a brief introduction of your beautiful self:
Within the spiritual community, I’m known as Feather a.k.a. The Witchy Mommy. I’m the owner of a small witchy shop online, The Witchy Mommy, where I handcraft herbal alchemy spell candles, spirit oils, herbal spell blends, and other spiritual curios. I have an active YouTube channel where I share with others how to craft a magickal life, DIY tutorials, and parts of my personal path as a witch. I also have an active blog where I write weekly crafting magick tips ranging from garden witchery, herbalism, candle magick , rituals, spell work, etc... I’m a wife to my husband of 14 years and a stay-at-home mother to 3 young children. My hobbies include gardening, crafts of all kinds, and photography.
WH: I absolutely love following you on YouTube and stop everything to watch your videos when I see a new one has been posted. You’re soft-spoken and sincere, and everything you show us comes from your heart. So, Feather, what type of witch do you identify as, or do you prefer a different term?
I’m not big in placing myself into a category when it comes to my spiritual path and identity as a witch. I’m multi-faceted! I would describe myself as a garden witch, as the majority of my craft revolves around working with plant life but there is always more than meets the eye.
WH: I’m actually quite jealous of your garden. It’s beautiful. Were you always a witch, even as a child, or did you become one later in life?
I believe I have always been a witch, in this lifetime, and in past lives. It’s in my DNA.
WH: Which is why you are so connected to your identity! I’m still new to this spiritual path after I discovered things about me that I guess you could say were lying dormant, so I’ve learned a lot from you. What are some of your favorite daily rituals?
Some of my favorite daily rituals include my sacred morning time in the garden. I enjoy walking around my garden, looking at all the changes, and taking that time to reflect. It’s a practice that helps to ground and center myself for the day ahead. I’m also a tea enthusiast and maintain a daily tea ritual, where I set intentions throughout the day, practice mindfulness and gratitude.
WH: That is something I have been working on a lot this year—the gratitude. When I think back to how I used to be, I’m embarrassed at how much I used to feel sorry for myself and complain about my life. So, I’m curious to know how you deal with people who don’t understand what it means to be a modern witch or judge you for being one. I’ve gotten a lot of funny looks from people this last year:
I’m ok with people who don’t understand my path or way of living. It’s not a priority of mine to make them understand. I’ve found that when I focus on the people who do understand and appreciate me, I attract more of those types of individuals. I have the attitude of take it or leave it, when it comes to my spiritual path. I’m very selective of who I hold space with in life.
WH: That’s a wonderful way of putting it. So, what is your favorite crystal, oil, herb, and incense?
Crystal - amethyst, Oil - Lemongrass, Herb - patchouli, Incense - sandalwood
WH: Lemongrass is so refreshing because of its clean scent. It immediately clears negativity and sets a beautiful tone for the day! What is something about yourself that makes you proud?
I’m blessed to be living a life I truly love. I’m proud of myself for going after what I want.
WH: Love it. What is your favorite Samhain (Halloween, for my non-witchy readers) tradition?
Favorite Samhain tradition is cooking a special meal for my ancestors with my family.
WH: I have actually not done this yet and plan to do it this year. I can’t believe, with how much I love cooking and loved my grandmother, that I have not cooked a special meal for her spirit. This is why I’m learning. Feather, when do you feel most powerful?
I feel most powerful when I experience situations or events that leave me feeling as though my mind has shifted and my awareness expanded. I am a sponge when it comes to insightful, eye opening experiences.
WH: That has happened to me like never before over the last year. Do you have any advice for witches just starting on their journey?
Advice - connect with nature to truly understand how Magick works, experiment with your craft, realize there are no rules, except for the ones you give yourself, and trust your intuition.
WH: I do love being outside. If only it wasn’t so hot in Miami in August! :) What is the most awesome thing happening in your life right now that you’d like to share with us?
The most awesome thing in my life right now is watching my garden and my children grow. These times are so sacred and hold so many magickal moments. Life is good! I have the luxury of staying home with my children and being a part of their lives, growing a business and online community I enjoy, and spending quality time pursuing my hobbies. The most awesome thing happening in my life is being able to live my life freely, being able to explore the unknown, and sharing all of this with my husband, children, and special people.
Family is the most precious thing of all, and you do a wonderful job of balancing life, family, work, and spiritualism. Thank you so much for being here, Feather! I hope we get to meet in person one day and share a cup of tea. BLESSED BE!
